The Morning After

The morning after 28 February 2014.

A last look before Buona Vista Swimming Complex is fenced off.

Capturing photos of the physical reminders of Buona Vista Swimming Complex before the demolitions.

With the demolition of the pools, little will be left to physically remind us of Buona Vista Swimming Complex - just those few photos, the records and the memories that we have.

For my father himself, the morning of 1 March 2014 is indeed a strange day for him. It is strange when he need to release the pools' water till it totally gone.

At 1030hrs, the grill gates are pulled together in an act of closure. And it marked the closing of a chapter in the Holland Village area.

Today, there is a wilted innocence here. For the first time, this place feels like a toy in adult hands.

My father. The first to unlocked the gates every morning and the last to locked it permanently on 1 March 2014.

A Grand Send Off

Friday, 28 February 2014 @ 2000 hrs.

A last swim before Buona Vista Swimming Complex close its gates forever.

Singaporeans were out in force to wave goodbye to Buona Vista Swimming Complex that has been very much a part of the island's landscape for over four decades during the final day of its operations.

It wasn't just to wave goodbyes, but also to extend our gratitude to the staffs of the pools that we will soon lose, and see some of the wonderful spaces that the pools has left behind.

Unfortunately, none of the spaces that will be retained for not just us but also for our future generations - that may at least preserve that fond memory of an old pools that once serve the people.
